These bespoke for JANECARR Italian photo albums are covered and lined with hand-marbled contrast papers. Made entirely by hand in a Florentine workshop using traditional bookbinding techniques. Each page is separated by glassine interleaving to protect photos.
The Florentine workshop create the marbled paper by hand, carefully selecting a palette of colours and applying them to a water bath, before delicately lowering paper onto the surface of the bath to create intricate patterns. Honouring these ancient techniques means each notebook is unique. Small irregularities are a characteristic of the handmade processes. Florence has a storied history of artistic bookbinding, with traditional techniques passed down from generation to generation.
