A set of four butter spreaders, hand-forged from solid brass in Sebastião Lobo’s atelier in Portugal.

Grounded, sculptural, and quietly expressive, the Hammered Collection by Sebastião Lobo transforms everyday objects into material studies of gesture, texture, and individuality. Each object carries the visible marks of the hammer, textured surfaces, gentle irregularities, and organic forms shaped by hand. Because every piece is individually made, variations in colour and design naturally occur.

Sebastião Lobo is a Portuguese artist and designer whose work sits at the intersection of contemporary craft, sculptural objects, and social practice. His pieces are characterised by a theatrical, slightly surreal aesthetic, objects that feel alive, at once delicate and baroque, and are conceived as both functional objects and artful provocations.

Proper care ensures your pieces age beautifully. With a few mindful steps, you can extend their longevity and preserve their quality for years to come.

Daily Care:

• - Rinse after use and wash with warm water and mild dish soap
• - Dry immediately with a soft cloth to prevent water marks
• - Avoid abrasive sponges or harsh chemical cleaners
• - Store in a dry place

Oxidation is a natural reaction between brass and its environment; it is not a defect and contributes to the material’s evolving character. To re-store the matte gold finish:

• - Submerge the pieces in white vinegar for a few minutes
• - Rinse with hot water and wash with dish soap
• - Dry thoroughly

Sebastião Lobo's ability to transform materials such as brass, clay, gold and wood enables him to create sculptural worlds that feel both surreal and alive. 

Driven by a belief that any material can hold creative potential, Sebastião’s atelier is a space of experimentation filled with unexpected textures that become starting points.

In 2023 Sebastião founded the UBUNTO Project, a social-design initiative in Kibera, Nairobi, that partners with local artisans to produce brass tableware and home objects. The project combines design development, fair-pay production, and skills training, aiming to create sustainable income streams and long-term opportunities for makers and their families.
