A striking antique Japanese wood-fired tobin (土瓶) featuring natural ash deposits, organic flame markings, and a beautifully irregular surface shaped by the kiln itself.
The body reveals layers of earthy texture - from raw clay and charcoal-dark firing marks to subtle green ash glaze that has melted and settled during the wood firing process. No two areas are alike; the surface records the movement of flame, heat, and time.
The sculptural handle and gently angled spout give the piece both balance and quiet presence. This is not factory ware, but a kiln-born vessel shaped by direct fire. A seal mark is impressed to the base.
It honours the Japanese concept of 侘寂 wabi-sabi - beauty found in imperfection, age, and change.
This piece has been crafted by hand and any irregularities are part of its unique character and design.
