These bespoke for JANECARR Italian photo albums are covered and lined with hand-marbled contrast papers. Made entirely by hand in Florence, Italy by Legatoria La Carta using traditional bookbinding techniques. Each page is separated by glassine interleaving to protect photos.
The Florentine workshop create the marbled paper by hand, carefully selecting a palette of colours and applying them to a water bath, before delicately lowering paper onto the surface of the bath to create intricate patterns. Honouring these ancient techniques means each notebook is unique. Small irregularities are a characteristic of the handmade processes. Florence has a storied history of artistic bookbinding, with traditional techniques passed down from generation to generation.
