    Style Notes

This antique Japanese farmer’s basket (農民籠, nōmin kago) is a rare example of authentic mingei (folk craft). Originally used in daily rural life, it is hand-woven from robust bamboo in an openwork lattice pattern, now beautifully enriched with a deep, natural patina from age and handling.

Its form makes it versatile: it can be appreciated as a piece of Japanese folk art, used as an ikebana flower vessel, or displayed as a sculptural object in its own right. A fine example of Japanese folk art and a timeless statement of wabi-sabi aesthetics - ideal for collectors, tea ceremony practitioners, or anyone seeking a piece of Japanese artistry with both beauty and function. Water insert not included.

The piece is in excellent vintage condition, marks and changes in colouration are part of its unique character.
