Nearly a century ago, Gabrielle Chanel commissioned the construction of La Pausa, a magnificent villa in Roquebrune in the South of France. Designed and decorated by the couturiere herself, it was her refuge for decades, and where she welcomed many friends - leading artistic, cultural, and high-society figures such as the Duke of Westminster, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí and Jean Cocteau.
In 2015, the House of Chanel undertook the restoration of La Pausa to revive its original spirit, as envisioned by the couturier: a home for gathering guests and friends - luxurious yet simple, surrounded by nature.
This book invites us to discover the history of this unique site, both architecturally and decoratively, a true testament to the cultural scene of the 1930s.
