The Kennedy’s storied family property has been the backdrop for some of the most pivotal moments in American history. Purchased in 1928, the Kennedy Compound is centred around three main houses on the waterfront of the Cape Cod town, where Joseph P. Kennedy Sr.; his wife, Rose; and their nine children—including US President and Senator John F. Kennedy and senators Robert Kennedy and Edward Kennedy—all lived. John F. Kennedy used the compound as a base for his successful 1960 presidential campaign, and in 2012, the main house was donated to the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the US Senate.
For nearly a century, the Kennedy Compound is where one of America’s most influential families has come to celebrate, bond, play, and grieve. The sprawling six-acre waterfront estate, with its three white-clapboard houses and manicured lawns stretching down to the sea, has been the backdrop for some of the most pivotal moments in American history.
Visit over a hundred shops and restaurants along a one-mile downtown strip including Artist Shanty’s overlooking the Harbour or Four Seas, the legendary 90-year-old ice cream shop in Centerville has long been a Kennedy go-to. Their peach flavour was a particular Kennedy favourite and a personal check from the First Lady was long displayed on the wall.
